B0020419McIntosh county, Georgia has the largest operating shrimping fleet on the East Coast!  And the shrimping season does not start without the historic annual Blessing of the Fleet, sponsored by the Darien-McIntosh County Chamber of Commerce.  This main attraction for the area brings out all ages to take part in what is a tradition for the community and their shrimpers.

This years event will take place during the weekend of April 12-14 in city of Darien with Grand Marshall, Robert Thomas.   The weekend is filled with events and activities for everyone:

  • Art in the park at Vernon Square starting on Friday
  • A street parade with Miss Blessing and Little Miss Blessing
  • A 5K race on Saturday
  • Entertainment
  • Activities for children
  • A car show
  • A community worship service
  • A variety of vendor booths
  • Great food
  • And on Sunday, the marine parade and blessing of the fleet, the main attraction!

The admission is very family friendly.  Five dollars for age 13 and up on Friday and Saturday. Ages twelve and under are admitted free with a paying adult.  And on Sunday for the blessing and marine parade, there is no admission charge!

Gather the family and head over to McIntosh County and help the shrimper start the season with well wishes and blessings for a safe and prosperous season.
