The Schweizerhof standing grand along Lake Luzern
The five-star Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern has been entertaining guests since 1845. In fact, the hotel is still owned and operated by the same family. Some of the illustrious guests to have stayed here include Mark Twain, Leo Tolstoy and 007 himself, Roger Moore. The hotel boasts a prime location on the promenade of Lake Luzern, with stunning views of the lake and Alps in the center of the historic old town. It is conveniently located a five-minute walk from the main rail station with prime access from Zurich, Bern, Basel and Geneva. If you arrive by car, you will have access to an underground car park owned by the hotel.
The hotel itself follows a neo-Renaissance style and although it retains its classic lines, it’s certainly not stodgy or pretentious. While little has changed about its grandeur since the mid-1800’s, the Schweitzerhof Luzern offers modern style and amenities in its 101 elegant rooms and suites. All have been recently renovated and are air-conditioned, although windows can be opened. Some have balconies. Coffee/tea machines, room safes, hairdryers, minibars, and flat-screen televisions are standard in all rooms. Wi-fi is free throughout the hotel. The Schweizerhof Luzern is a festival hotel, hosting many festivals and events in Luzern annually. These festivals make their way into the décor of the rooms as does the personality of famous individuals who have called the hotel their home away from home. Each room has its own “thumbprint” paying tribute to the likes of composer Richard Wagner, a young Winston Churchill, even B.B. King.

Restaurant Galerie offers fresh, seasonal fare a la carte throughout the day and is known to offer the best chateaubriand in Luzern. Restaurant Pavillon offers fine dining from the very best guest chefs. During the summer, guests can dine alfresco on the sun terrace. The Schweizerhof Bar is the gathering place of Luzern’s chic, hipster crowd. Mood lighting and modern design give it a distinctive vibe. The bar celebrates “Thirsty Thursdays” with creative cocktails, free tapas, and cool lounge music. Get your Latin on twice a month when the bar opens up the dance floor for Caribbean salsa and rhythmic tango.
On the top floor of the hotel, you will find the Wellness Center with its Technogym, offering state-of-the-art, high-tech fitness equipment, a spa and refreshment bar with its breathtaking views.
