A Love Letter To The Valley, Anguilla

A Love Letter from Brenda O’Neale, a Travel Agent specializing in Destination Weddings, Honeymoons and romance travel.

Dear The Valley,

I fell in love with you in 1980 the first time I visited.

My sons’ Godfather was the Minister of Finance at the time and was building a new home and invited us to come and visit. People in Anguilla did not lock doors and if you were walking on the road, residents honked and waved and offered to give you a ride.

That is still the case today as I visited recently and picked up a lady and gave her a ride.

The residents welcome you as family and not as tourists and if you are blessed to come back you will be greeted with  “Welcome Home”.

Anguillans take great pride in their island and the majority of residents are homeowners.

The most beautiful sunsets can be seen from Sand Bar or the Ultimacy Villa.

I have several favorite restaurants as Anguilla is the best place in the world for foodies. I love Tasty’s, Davida and Flavors as well as CeBlue.

Every time I visit, I must make a trip to Shoal Bay which I think is the most beautiful beach on the island with its white, soft sand beach.

My must do activities:

1. Visit Shoal Bay

2. Lunch at Uncle Ernie’s

3. Visit Smokey’s on the Cove on Saturdays for dancing

4. Ted’s Barbecue

5. Brunch at Cap Jaluca

Anguilla has given me so much love and given me a different view of the Caribbean. I view visiting Anguilla as coming home. The pace is very pleasant and not tourist driven.

There are no really large resorts, all-inclusives , large airport or cruise ships. When the back to back hurricanes came, my family and friends collected clothing and shoes and I shared them with my family and friends in Anguilla.

There is no other place on earth like Anguilla. This beautiful island is portrayed as only for the rich and famous. The rich and famous do come but there is something for everyone. The last time I visited, the actress Nia Long was in the customs line right next to me.

LaVue is a wonderful boutique hotel and to me it is a well kept secret. It has the most wonderful staff, location and food.

Thank you Anguilla for all you have given and continue to give and I will see you soon. Love always!
