An Australian movie night.

When planning an actual trip to a destination is not in the plans, there is a way to travel virtually.  Movies can take us there. And, there is no place more intriguing than Australia. Let’s go down under with a couple of films. Here are a couple of suggestions to get you started on an-

Australian movie night

Red Dog – Based on a true story and adapted from the best-selling novel is a moving and charming movie that will capture your heart. Based on a story about an incredible wandering dog who hitched his way to a small mining town in Australia and into the hearts of the people who lived there.

Crocodile Dundee – Australia’s Outback – Talk about a fish (Barramundi fish) out of the water. This movie delivers lots of laughs as you go along with an Australian outback hunter to discover the modern world. There’s also a Crocodile Dundee 2; you must have the whole story!

A man from Snowy River – Australia’s High Country and romance! A movie centered around a feud for land.

My two favorites for Australian movie night

Rabbit Proof Fence – A story about Western Australia in 1931, the film follows three young girls trying to get back home, as they walk for nine weeks and 1,500 miles following a fence that keeps rabbits out of the settlements. Based on a true story by Doris Pilkington Garimara about her mother and two other young Aboriginal girls who ran away from the Moore River Native Settlement to return to their families.

Australia – This movie starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman puts you front and center in Australia. The story about an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch set in Australia before World War II. The story follows her efforts to save and protect her property as she also forms new relationships.

Add a bowl of popcorn or try an Australian dish to make the evening truly authentic.

Ok – now plan your Australian movie night

Do you have a favorite movie to add? Or maybe you have a list of moving based on another destination or theme. Having a  movie night based on a theme is a great way to discover a new culture.  Make a plan by choosing the films, preparing a few treats and inviting the friends. Ready, set, go!
