Christmas in Heidelberg

Christmas in Heidelberg!!  Have you thought of the gift of travel for that special person you would love to delight this season?  Maybe there is a special celebration and you’re still not sure how to make it extra special?  The Gift of Travel is always a guarantee of happiness.  The city that comes to mind for a special holiday getaway is Heidelberg, Germany.  The beautiful and spectacular city of Heidelberg, Germany is filled with so much history and grand points of interest.  I had an opportunity to visit earlier this year and of all the cities on my tour, Heidelberg was not only fascinating  but also easy to explore, many shopping opportunities, delicious local cuisine and you will readily feel the spirit of this university city.

Oh how I wish I could be there now, during this festive time of the year. I spoke with a dear friend who shared with me all the things available for travelers during this special time of the year.  From November 26 to December 22, the scents of roasted almonds, cinnamon and hot chestnuts waft through the winding alleyways of the Old Town. You will find yourself immersed in the holiday season of the city, viewed against the romantic backdrop of the castle, as couples glide hand-in-hand on skates, and the gaily decorated Christmas stalls murmur with the international chatter of voices. It is Christmas time in Heidelberg. The five cobble-stone squares in the Old Town and “Germany’s most beautiful ice-rink” on the Karlsplatz set against the impressive setting of the Castle radiate with charm and lights. In the fairy-tale winter woods at the “Kornmarkt,” which is one of the squares, the Advent stroll is transformed into a sensual experience.

Caroline von Kretschmann – owner

If you can stay through Christmas, then you can book a very special treat on the 24th and 25th and celebrate a very special and romantic Christmas at Heidelberg’s five star Europaeischer Hof. During my visit to Heidelberg I stayed in this spectacular hotel.  It is definitely a luxurious experience, but what I loved most was the combination of warmth of the staff and owner along with comfort around each corner.  During my visit I had a chance to meet Caroline von Kretschmann, fourth generation of the family to manage the property. She was very gracious and shared champagne along with an overview of the hotel’s history. I felt welcomed and ready to explore the amenities.  After a tour of the lovely property and the one-on-one experience with the staff, it was very easy to feel right at home.

The holidays are expressed in so many small details.  The elegant and festively decorated rooms, a Champagne welcome and a small Christmas present create a welcoming and special time. On Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day guests will receive a festive 4-course meal in a holiday ambience. This package includes access to the elegant roof-top spa with its wellness, fitness and pool area above the rooftops of Heidelberg with views of the castle. Visit the Christmas mass in the famous Church of the Holy Spirit or in another church or some concerts and let the romantic Heidelberg enchant you with its charm.

Does this sound like your special getaway?  I say yes!  Here are the details to get started with a holiday gift which will be filled with life-long memories.  Rates are per person from 477.00 Euro in a double room: reservations@europaeischerhof.com. https://www.europaeischerhof.com/en/

And, if you can not make your Christmas dreams come true, there is also spring time in Heidelberg and summer too. You will find this city to be inviting and exciting throughout the year.  Make your hotel reservation with the link above and the helpful, and knowledgable staff will take it from there.
