As America marks its 250th anniversary in 2026, this stretch of the Southeast is delivering some of the most history-rich Fourth of July programming in the country — from Revolutionary battle sites to waterfront fireworks over rivers, harbors, and historic forts.
North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands
With deep colonial roots and nationally significant historic sites, North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands is offering an immersive, beyond-the-big-city way to mark America 250, with reenactments, festivals, and educational programming planned throughout the region.
Blairsville, Georgia
Blairsville is hosting “Freedom & Fireworks: The 250 in Blairsville” on Saturday, July 4, from 7:30–10:00 p.m. at Meeks Park (11 Pool Lane, Blairsville, GA). Set against the North Georgia mountains, the free, family-friendly event includes bounce houses, cornhole, kickball, food trucks, cotton candy, and a fireworks show that echoes across the surrounding peaks. Admission and parking are both free.
- Across the road at North Georgia Technical College, additional food vendors will serve regional favorites including boiled peanuts, kettle corn, pork rinds, and fresh lemonade.
Bremen, Georgia
Bremen’s Independence Day lineup includes a patriotic golf cart parade and decorating contest, a watermelon relay race for all ages, live music, and a fireworks display.
Augusta, Georgia

As Georgia’s second-oldest city, Augusta is blending Revolutionary-era history with modern festivities for its America 250 Celebration. Programming runs throughout 2026, with signature events July 3–4, capped by a fireworks show over the Savannah River.
- Highlights: the Modern Americana Exhibit at Augusta & Co., Music at the Museum at the Augusta Museum of History, and guided tours of Meadow Garden (home of Declaration signer George Walton), the boyhood home of President Woodrow Wilson, and the Ezekiel Harris House.

Cartersville, Georgia
Just outside Atlanta, Cartersville’s beloved Fourth of July parade celebrates its 50th anniversary this year alongside the nationwide America 250 milestone — floats will carry American history themes. The parade steps off at 9:00 a.m. on July 4 in downtown Cartersville, with a classic car show and family activities to follow.
Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is one of only four national Signature Cities designated by Congress and America250 for enhanced 250th-anniversary commemorations — and the only one in the South. The city’s Revolutionary War role centers on Carolina Day (June 28, 1776), marking the Battle of Sullivan’s Island, one of the first decisive American victories of the war.
- Revolutionary Ideas: A Conversation with Rick Atkinson — June 26, 2026. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian discusses his book The Fate of the Day.
- Revolutionary Skies Drone Show — June 27, 2026. A signature drone show over Charleston Harbor depicting the city’s Revolutionary story, honoring Carolina Day.

- Mary Whyte: Salt of the Earth — On view now through September 27 at the Gibbes Museum of Art. Twenty-six large-scale watercolors celebrating the diversity and resilience of everyday Americans.
Programming for the city’s commemoration spans 2025 through 2030, so there’s reason to plan return visits in the years ahead. Coordinating organizations include SC250, Charleston 250, and Explore Charleston.
St. Augustine, Florida

America’s 250th Anniversary Comes to Life in St. Augustine — fireworks, free concerts, historic tours, and special exhibits make the Nation’s Oldest City a standout Independence Day destination, with centuries of history as a backdrop.
- Fireworks Over the Matanzas — July 4. The All-Star Orchestra performs Big Band favorites with a patriotic flair in the Plaza de la Constitución from 6–8 p.m.; fireworks (choreographed to music) begin at 9 p.m. Best viewing is along the Bayfront between the Castillo de San Marcos and the Bridge of Lions.
- Admission to the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument is free July 3–5 in honor of the anniversary. On July 3, the National Park Service and the St. Augustine Music Festival present patriotic fanfares and fife-and-drum performances, with brass quintet sets at 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m.
- Admission to the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum is just $2.50 on July 4. The museum also joins the nationwide simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8.
Kissimmee & Osceola County, Florida
Osceola County is marking America 250 with a full slate of Fourth of July events, anchored by the City of Kissimmee’s “Monumental Fourth of July” at Kissimmee Lakefront Park — live music, family activities, food trucks, and fireworks over Lake Tohopekaliga.
- Also happening: Celebration’s annual Independence Day Parade and fireworks, Old Town’s “Red, White & Horsepower,” Promenade at Sunset Walk’s America 250 festivities, and St. Cloud’s “4th on the Lake.”
- Theme parks including Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, LEGOLAND Florida, and SeaWorld Orlando host their own major fireworks shows, included with admission.
Lake County, Florida

Key West turns Independence Day into a full island experience, with waterfront fireworks over the Atlantic, live music all night, and laid-back coastal energy. A signature local tradition is the Key Lime Festival and World Famous Key Lime Pie Eating Championship, held on the beach at Southernmost Beach Café.

Located 30 miles east of Austin, Bastrop bills itself as “The Most Historic Small Town in
Texas,” with roots dating to 1832. Its Big Bang! celebration centers community and family tradition rather than fireworks alone.
- Pet & Pedal Parade — families and pets decorate bicycles, wagons, scooters, and strollers in red, white, and blue and parade through Historic Downtown Bastrop.
- Freedom on Wheels — a showcase of decorated, non-motorized transportation: bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and wagons.

West Virginia — America250 Capital City Celebration
Running July 2–5 at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston, WV, the celebration has announced its headline acts: Alabama on Friday, July 3; the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, July 4; and The Marshall Tucker Band on Sunday, July 5. Fireworks light up the Capitol grounds on July 3 at 10 p.m.
- The American250 Wheel — the world’s tallest portable Ferris wheel — will operate on the Capitol grounds with free rides, plus nightly 3D projection light shows on the Capitol building.
- The Charleston Sternwheel Regatta runs the same weekend nearby, with Melissa Etheridge, Wynonna Judd, Bobby Brown, and Bret Michaels among the performers.
U.S. Virgin Islands — St. John Celebration
One of the country’s most distinctive Fourth of July events, the annual St. John Celebration honors both Emancipation Day in the former Danish West Indies (July 3, 1848) and U.S. Independence Day. It blends history, culture, music, and local cuisine, culminating in a parade through Cruz Bay and fireworks over the harbor.
Cayuga County, New York — Harriet Tubman’s Hometown
The Seward House Museum hosts “A Subject for the Fourth of July” on July 3 from 5:00–7:30 p.m. The event — at the home of William H. Seward, a friend of Harriet Tubman — features a concert by the Auburn Civic Band, a museum open house, and reenactments of the Independence Day speeches Seward delivered over nearly half a century.
Rebild, Denmark — The World’s Largest Celebration Outside the U.S.

Rebild National Park in Jutland, Denmark hosts the largest Independence Day celebration outside the United States. Danish Americans purchased the 200-acre park in 1911 and donated it to the Danish king and country in 1912 as a permanent memorial. The annual Rebild Festival has drawn notable attendees over the decades, including Walt Disney, George H.W. Bush, Victor Borge, and Richard Nixon, with speeches and music marking the day.

Several Massachusetts and South Carolina institutions are opening major exhibitions tied to 1776:
- Massachusetts Historical Society — Chief Historian Dr. Kanisorn Wongsrichanalai discusses why John Adams believed Independence Day should be celebrated on July 2, and the coincidence that both Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826.
- Concord Museum — “Revolutionary Legacies” opens March 27, featuring objects that witnessed the war’s opening day, including the original lantern used during Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride.
- Quincy, MA — the “Architecture of Democracy” programming and the 75th annual Quincy Flag Day Parade, the longest-running Flag Day parade in the country, plus the “Remember the Ladies” initiative honoring Abigail Adams.
- Charleston Museum — “Ringleaders of Rebellion” features the original logbook of the HMS Bristol, returned to South Carolina for the first time in 250 years.
