Here’s a bit of travel trivia for you. Impress your friends and family with these bits of information. Some you may say yourself – “I didn’t know!”

Statistics and Trends

  • According to Skift.com, mobile devices now generate 25 percent of all digital travel transactions in the US and it is forecasted to rise to 33 percent by the end of the year / this will present a new challenge for marketers, because it means more and more customers are visiting their websites via devices rather than on the computer
  • Skift.com also conducted surveys to track the travel habits of Americans in 2014. Last year, only 13 percent of Americans traveled abroad. 63 percent of adults have note traveled in the last year. Almost half of Americans didn’t take a single day off over the summer of 2014. A good reason to listen to Travel Bags and get inspired by our list of great deals, destinations and fun activities.   A lot of elements could contribute to these trends, such as finances and the state of the economy.

  • According to sharecare.com, men in a nine-year study who took at least one vacation per year were almost 30% less likely to die from a heart-related cause / this doesn’t mean you have to take long, expensive vacations to be healthy. The study did not track the length of the vacations. Regardless of the time you are able to spend away from work, any relaxation time can be restorative for your health.
  • From traveltamed.com, there are 61,000 people in the air over the US at any given time / perhaps related to the fact that 1/3 of the world’s airports are located in the US
  • According to vegasinc.com, Las Vegas hosts the most hotel rooms of any city in the world

  • In Mongolia, the population density is the lowest in the world – with 4 people for square mile.

  • According to a CNN report from a pilot for Chinas Eastern Airlines, the pilot and copilot are often required to eat different meals just in case of food poisoning

  • According to Scientific American, you can predict the weather based on the white trail planes often leave behind – a thin, shorter-lasting tail indicates low humidity air and fair weather
  • The world’s busiest airport is Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta – 95.5 million passengers and 930,00 takeoffs and landings every year
