US Airways allows passengers to track bags in flight

By: Alyson Shields

DSC_0218US Airways has found a way to travel stress and panic free for their customers by introducing a tracking system for checked luggage.

On March 19, US Airways passengers were able to begin tracking their bags in flight. Delta Airlines was the first to launch the tracker to their passengers – the technology was already used internally.

Simply enter your name, flight information or bag tag code and the status of the checked bag pops up. Those with smart phones and tablets can check the status of their bags using the in-flight wi-fi, from take off to landing.

The bags are scanned three times when they are checked. First, the bag is scanned at check-in. It is scanned again when it boards the plane and again when it deplanes.  “It alleviates the stress and the tension that sometimes happens around, ‘Is my bag traveling with me?” said Delta spokesman Paul Skrbec.

Unfortunately, any bags that are mishandled must be dealt with at the destination and not on the spot. Hopefully the tracker will help ease the mind of many passengers, or at least prepare those who’s luggage ends up in the wrong place.
