The perfect combination

Gulf Shores Sport Fishing Deep Sea Fishing

Gulf Shores Sport Fishing and Deep Sea Fishing – now is the perfect time!!  As the season comes to a close, we’ve talked on Travel Bags about how to make the summer state of mind last all year. Many of us would describe a perfect summer day as relaxing by the water and soaking up the sun. One of the most rewarding ways to do that is to go fishing. Not only do you have an opportunity to spend uninterrupted hours surrounded by beautiful scenery, but you also get the thrill of catching a fish and  bringing something back to shore for a meal!

Fishing is part of the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach way of life. Given its diverse landscape, there are plenty of options for fresh and saltwater fishing. It’s uncomplicated to bring your own boat or find a fishing charter to take you out on the water for a few hours. Some of the most popular fish in the area include blue marlin, red snapper and yellow fin tuna. You can find extensive fishing guides on the official website: www.gulfshores.com

You don’t have to get on a boat to go fishing either. The Gulf State Park pier is one of the largest along the entire Gulf Coast. It’s a great place to see some flounder, ladyfish and bluefish. There’s also a concession stand and shops nearby if you need to cool off. Another fishing option is right along the shore. When you set out to spend your day at the beach, pack a few rods too. You can also explore the lagoons and other inner coastal waterways.

Women love deep sea fishing too.

Both nearshore and deep sea fishing are popular as well. From Perdido Bay to Terry Cove, there are plenty of marinas where you can set off with your boat and take in the coastal landscape as you search for king mackerel and sheepshead among others. Many of the deep sea charters in the area promise a full day’s worth of adventure. In fact, some charters offer overnight trips as well so that you can spend as much time as possible fishing for deep sea options like swordfish, grouper and marlin.

Charters are also available for groups of all sizes that want to focus on the fishing while a reliable captain leads them to the best spots. Some charters even provide the equipment, bait and a knowledgeable crew that will help clean your catch when you return to shore. It’s a perfect option for someone who wants to try fishing but isn’t sure where or how to start.  A suggested list of charters is below.  You can find an extensive directory of charters to plan a full day or a portion of the day going for the big catch.  The Gulf Shores website will provide information for charters, accommodations and dining.

Another way to get immersed in the world of fishing is to attend the tournaments that take place in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach throughout the year. There are junior tournaments, deep sea fishing rodeos and the Blue Marlin Grand Championship of the Gulf. Don’t miss the weigh-ins to see how the best of the best fare!

When you’re spending hours in the sun, it’s of course important to keep health and safety in mind. Fishing brings about its own particular safety concerns too. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have provided a few safety tips so that you can focus on the fun. Be sure to pack sunscreen, sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat. Bring a motion sickness medication just in case being on a boat for a few hours makes you dizzy. Keep in mind that even on hot days, out on the water it can get pretty windy. It’s recommended to wear lightweight layers that you can add or remove as needed.

Its good to know that the Gulf State Park pier is one of the largest along the entire Gulf Coast. My family and I are taking a trip out to the coast and some of my siblings don’t like going on boats but they want to experience deep sea fishing. I’ll be sure to let them know that it’s still possible to fish from the pier!
