Lake Vacations – Let’s go to the lake
Lake vacations equal summer fun. We’re ready to hit the water and it doesn’t have to be cramming all the beach gear into the car. You can have “tons of fun” when you go to the lake. Choose lakes that are close by and try a few that will make a great road trip. I say “yes” to that trip to lake. It’s just what we’ve all been waiting for.
1. Lake Lanier
We must mention our home town favorite in Georgia, because it’s just that; our favorite. Most of us grew up going to the lake or any new comers to the North Georgia area, it has definitely been a weekend draw. There are fun packages available to make it extra special this year. The Margarita Cruise Package equals salt, lime and a really fun time with a sunset cruise. Here’s what you’ll get: Deluxe overnight accommodations at Lake Lanier resort, 2 tickets for Margaritaville at Lanier islands with a Saturday Margarita Cruise. You can sample 6 specialty Margaritas or Boat Drinks while cruising the lake. Of course delicious food is part of the enjoyment – BBQ, Peel and Eat Shrimp and more. A breakfast buffet on Sunday morning gets you ready to say… “Oh that was the best weekend!”

2. Lake Rabun
Ready for a little mountain fun that includes the play time you’ve been craving? And, it’s on the lake….Head on up, over or down to Lake Rabun. Wherever you start, you’ll want to end your journey at Lake Rabun. Plan a trip that’s filled with adventure and fun. Check into the Lake Rabun Hotel and have more time to explore North Georgia’s best waterfalls and hiking trails. When you explore the whole area there is fly fishing, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing and zip-lining. And, how about taking the white water rafting challenge, or exploring the ATV paths. You’ll find there is more than just the lake, but that is there too ready for you to say oh yeah!

3. Lake Oconee
I’ve been told it’s the lake with the rich and famous. But, don’t let that stop you. There is more to Lake Oconee than the Ritz Carlton. Lake Oconee is waiting for a day trip filled with fishing for largemouth bass, striped bass, white bass and more. The lake is known for great bass fishing and why not try your hand catching one of the delicious fish for dinner.
But, if you want to make it a weekend filled with luxury, the beautiful hotel is waiting for you, but there are many Airbnb choices too. However, if your weekend is all about fishing, check out the website www.lakeoconeefishingguides.com for all the details to plan your day or weekend of fishing.
4. West Point Lake
Pack up and head west. You’ll get it all. The forest, rolling fields and of course the lake. Get ready to explore the area. You’ll find other sites nearby that are worth making it a road trip. Fishing is probably the most popular activity on West Point Lake. A dozen creeks and more than 40 square miles of lake provide plenty of good fishing spots for the whole family. Spend time teaching younger family members the joy of fishing. You can catch bass, catfish, crappie and bream. And, the smaller creeks like Hardley Creek Park has a pond that is easily accessibly for visitors with disabilities. While you’re there check out River Bend Winery and Vineyard, Fort Tyler, and in nearby La Grange there is a long list of things to see and do. For one check out the Great Wolf Lodge for a host of family fun activities.
5. Finger Lakes
Ready to put the car on the road? Head up to New York’s Finger Lakes for a road trip that puts the destination top of the list. Plan to stay a couple of days. There are several Finger lakes to explore. From boat cruising, breweries, ciders and distilleries, farmers markets, museums and historical sites. There is something for everyone. Plan a long stay in this destination to ensure you see and do everything that’s on the whole family’s list of “I wanna see and do this!” And, we can’t leave off shopping and spas. Plan a summer or winter trip. Both times of the year have something special for you to do.
6. Lake Tahoe
The snow is gone and now it’s a summer destination with all the adventure you love. Horseback riding, jet ski rentals and great foodie delights too. Who knew? As with any lake, of course there is fishing; how fun would that be to go fishing in Tahoe. Go boating where you can zip around and find hideaway coves, hike trails that are perfect for all levels, golfing and try all the water sports you can fit in during your trip.
“Let’s go to the lake” is a great idea as we re-enter the world of summer vacations. There are many Great Lakes close to your home or if you’re ready for a road trip the U.S. has many beautiful water spots to welcome you and your family.
